Knowledge brokerage
CEP has developed significant expertise in the science-policy debates - the role science, evidence and
knowledge (expert and lay) play in environmental policy making at EU and national levels. CEP
specialises in facilitating the exchange and transfer of technical environmental and sustainability
knowledge among diverse stakeholders and the public, and lay knowledge to experts. We do this
through a wide range of engagement techniques and through a strongly interdisciplinary approach to our
work. We are comfortable working across a diverse range of the natural and social sciences.
An example of our work in this area is a two day programme offered with Imperial College London on
'Science and Sense: Using knowledge effectively to address climate change'. This course aims
to provide participants with an understanding and practical skills of how knowledge and knowledge
brokerage can be used to facilitate improved communication, decision making and to stimulate
innovation in the context of climate change.
